Seo for Blogs - 6 Tips for High Performance
Posted by Paul Bannister in General Marketing on March 8th, 2010
Running a blog on the Internet requires skills in writing and also skills in SEO so that you can optimize your blog for the search engines. If you don’t then no one will find you - so whats the point in writing. Now you also need to be concerned with Google Caffeine as this is measuring the performance of your site as well as the content. If you use wordpress then you know its slower than an html site and so you need to optimize it to get it ranked.
Implement these tips and your site will fly:
W3 Total Cache. If you have used wp super cache then you know all about caching pages on disk or memory so that visitor calls to your site don’t have to go to the database to retrieve the content. W3 Total Cache goes a step further, and adds gzip compression, minifies your css and js files and adds caching to the database. Its a classic one click install from the wordpress site, and will add at least 10% performance of your site. Make sure you uninstall wp super cache and any other caching or optimisation software you have.
Get Thesis - Ok a new a theme might seem daunting, but if you want your blog to be clean and seriously SEO friendly then this is one to get. It completely distinguishes your content from your design - so what? - well this ensures that evey wordpress upgrade or customisation you do is totally supported and doesn’t bring your blog down. Then you can customise the whole site for colours, styles and fancy widgerydoos to your hearts content in a point and click interface. No Coders needed.
Google Tools for the Webmaster - Google webmaster tools is the view direct from the google bot. Login here and check that 1) The bot is reading your site well, and there is no bad content. 2) Check the performance of the site is close to the dotted line. You site may not be visible straight away, and it may take a few weeks for the performance to be tracked.
PageSpeed - Google seems to be using the PageSpeed algorithm and methods to judge the performance of the site and what needs optimizing. They list PageSpeed as a recommended install and I suggest you do it. Its very simple - find it from Firefox but make sure you install firebug first. Once you are viewing your site, you can run it via the Tools - firebug menu.
Get a VPS - The next upgrade from website hosting used to be a dedicated server. Now you can get a virtual server which runs on shared hardware. Running your site on a virtual server (VPS) allows you more control on your memory and cpu power. Most importantly it allows you to take advantage of in memory caching enabled by WP Total Cache. I use Hostgator as the support is fantastic. I can go online any time of the day via chat and have an issue taken care of and believe me I’ve had issues. The nice thing about VPS implementations is that they are easily scalable, so if you become an overnight celeb by accidently twittering about the demise of Cheryl Cole you can recover quickly by extending the resources of the server to cope with the demand. You will also see more and more setup in the cloud this way.
Content Delivery Networks - A CDN stores your static data on servers closer to your visitors than your website is. So to them in terms of performance, it looks like the site is next door. This will be a massive improvement on your overall site performance and something really worth doing. Most big blogs or sites you go to have this implemented (which is the main reason they’re so fast) Akamai are the leaders in the industry, but really focus on enterprise accounts. I use maxcdn as with W3 Total Cache it took less than 5 minutes to setup. Best of all they have an offer of $10 to get going for 1TB of data (thats a lot btw).

Google Cash Detective Isn’t A Scam
Posted by Bob LeBrun in SEO on February 27th, 2010
Okay, I know what you’re thinking, this is just another scam, another phony testimonial trying to separate me from my money. I know what you’re thinking, because I thought exactly the same thing. If you’re like me, you probably have sent money to other companies who promised that they would show you how to make money on Google. If they sent you anything at all for your money, it was worthless.
I came across Google Cash Detective by accident. I sure wasn’t looking to spend any more money on phony get rich quick schemes. Money back guarantees don’t impress me any more, I never got any of my money back from the other so called programs. I noticed though that this site only charged a dollar and I wouldn’t have to wait for a package that would never arrive, I could watch a video online.
Well, the say that hope springs eternal, and anyway it was just a buck, really nothing much to lose there. So I forked over my dollar and settled back to watch the show. If nothing else, it would keep me entertained for awhile and it couldn’t be much worse than some movies i’ve sat through.
Sorry, Google Cash Detective, I was wrong. The truth is the videos were informative and did actually offer new and practical ideas that I could use. I didn’t need to invest more time or money than I had and I could start right away without even setting up a website.
This isn’t a magic rocket to the top. You won’t get rich overnight. What you will get is solid business advice from experts in affiliate marketing. When I first started up, I didn’t make much, but I did cover my one dollar investment with plenty to spare. Of course, you have to be willing to invest the time in learning from the videos and following the steps.
I’ve been working my online business for about three months, and while I’m not financially independent yet, I have a nice side income that grows every week. I hope that within the foreseeable future i’ll be able to give up my “real” job and work online full time. My wife’s not as crazy about that idea as I am. I may have to take up golf to get out of her way.
All you have to do is watch the videos. No waiting for packages to be delivered, no complicated software that you don’t know how to run. The videos cover a lot of territory including how to use keywords and how to chose keyword to get the attention of search engines, how to link to an affiliate without even having a website, and how to chose products that will actually sell.
If you’re looking to work from home, or if you just want to generate a little extra income on the side, this program will work for you. Google Cash Detective is the real deal. Of course I could be lying, but it will only cost you a buck to find out.

Update Your Word-press Blog Plugins
Posted by Buddy U. McLellan in SEO on February 2nd, 2010
Blogger push their self to the limit in order to be best on the search engine industry. They post several new ideas, advices, and information over their blog to improve page ranking. But hackers are waiting for their chance to enter to your site to make necessary alterations on your blog to improve their site.
Spam Injection is one of the problems that Wordpress users face. It is a kind of software used by hackers to hide important keywords as well as improving their page rank. It mixes the decoded codes after embedding a database or server. However, Google Bot can help you to see these files during crawling. Detecting the problem is not easy to do. Most of them are embedded on a database level using Wordpress plug-ins or templates. Plug-ins makes Wordpress the center of Spam Injection attacks. However, it keeps the blog site more amazing than to its competitor.
If you just enhance your Wordpres plug-in, Spam Injection will not be prevented. You must choose a strong password or revise it regularly to prevent the attack. You need to change the default username “admin” on your own choice, then, create a new account. Next is to transfer your old post to your newly created account to save time and effort.
David Kierznowski of blogsecurity.net developed the “no-version plug-in.” It’s a latest plugin capable of hiding your Wordpress version number and replaces it with blanks. It’s one way of preventing hackers to see which version you’re using as well as manipulating your site. As a result, anybody who searches your blog will not be able to see the version of your wordpress blog. Most of the files in Wordpress begin with “wp.” Hackers will have an easy access to your plug-ins if you are not aware of what they can do. You must rename your database files located at /wp-content/plugins to prevent hackers on controlling your site. You can as well avoid hackers if you will remove the index.html located at wp-content/plugins/ folder.
Bloggers must be aware that hackers are always around. You need to protect your site from the evil deeds made by hackers. Better start enhancing your site now, or else, you may become one of those unfortunate individuals affected by spam injection attack.

Tips To Draw StumbleUpon Users Into Reading Your Post
Posted by Nik Imran in Traffic Generation on January 26th, 2010
The potential for StumbleUpon to send traffic is often under-estimated, particularly by new bloggers. Unlike digg and del.icio.us, an item doesn’t need to become popular before you see immediate results. One or two votes can bring a hundred or more readers - more than a new blog might see in a day. StumbleUpon users are, however, notoriously fickle.
In order to increase stumblers time on site, there are a couple of pointers you must keep in mind. Use these tips to draw StumbleUpon users to your site before they stumble away.
1. Get a catchphrase - A good blog design should always be able to communicate to its visitors what the site is all about. Therefore, it’s very important for a site to always have a catchphrase that can sum the mission of the blog in a few words. This is especially true if you want to attract StumbleUpon users to stay longer in your site.
2. Insert powerful visual cues - When channel-surfing the decision to stick with a channel or move on is often largely determined by visual cues. Even with the sound off you can tell a drama from a news program, a travel show from a cartoon, because visual elements provide clues as to what kind of show you’re watching. The same principle applies to blogs. If your blog’s header contains an image of a pile of cash, we can reasonably assume the blog is about money (or making it). That’s a lot of information communicated instantly by a single image.
3. Push your content above the fold - StumbleUpon users often judge a site by what is offered in the above the fold area - the area of your site which appears on screen before any scrolling occurs.
I recommended using sidebars, navigation area, header area and post area to place important information that can reflect your blog’s mission. I also recommend popular post to increase visitor’s time on site.
5. Get a professional design - We all know first impression matters. This is also true for blogs. In order to present your blog well to StumbleUpon users, it’s recommended that you get a unique design, to differentiate yourself with others. This will in turn encourage stumblers to stick around and check whether the content is worth reading.
StumbleUpon is a great tool to drive hundreds of unique visitors to your site and introduce your site to people, especially when your blog is new. Make sure to make full use of these tips to not only get unique visitors, but also score loyal readers at the same time.
